After playing in the snow all day, I have decided that I just HAVE to throw snowballs at Old Man Winter on imbolc! It's hilarious and awesome, and the best way to get the message across that we are ready for the season of spring! Since we probably won't have any snow at that time, I'm going to take advantage of the snow today and make snowballs to keep in the freezer until February 2nd. I should probably have some kind of item ready for the lucky participant to wear, maybe a wreath or cloak of some sort.
I sent a message out on facebook inviting people to save some snowballs as well for the occasion, which prompted a few interested responses. I was surprised how uneasy I felt explaining why I was doing it, and basically chickened out stating "It's a traditional way to let Mother Nature know we are ready for spring!". I mean, that's true of course, but there is also more to it than that. It will be interesting (and great!) to see if anyone actually ends up joining us.
