Birthday Crowns

Birthdays and more birthdays this month! Both my brother and sister celebrate their day this week and so we are having a medieval feast to mark the occasion. I am making herbal wreaths to signify each of them as honoured guests. I went foraging for herbs which grow wild all over the neighbourhood. I ended up with a basket full of rosemary, thyme, and purple sage.

Making these wreaths are simple. I use flexible wire to hold the pieces together by twisting them  into a spiral. Then I reinforce with some colourful ribbon. Once the basic shape is secure, I use tweezers to slip individual pieces throughout the wreath. This is where you can add flowers or other decorative ornaments. I find it easier to essential make a herb strip with ties rather than a circle. It's amusing how different head circumferences can be!
