Mad Men Birthday Party

Here are some photos from my fabulous Mad Men party!  Everyone who attended came in 1950s attire and really got into the spirit of the theme. I put up a bunch of decorations, made food, created an outdoor "cigar lounge" type area both with real cigars and candy cigarettes. And there was a LOT of booze! It was a fair bit of work preparing everything, but in the end completely worth it.

Mad Men paper dolls guard the jello mold! I found these dolls online, and I had copies for guests to take home with them.
Bulletin board with vintage advertisements, fashion, and a few props. Finally a use for the rotary phone I've been hanging onto all these years ha ha! I also found a few books from the 1950s on floral design and crochet for people to flip through.
So much food - sushi platter, beef and mushroom crowns, pineapple upside down cake, cocktail sausages, cheese & grape sticks, vegetable platter, tiny cucumber sandwiches (no crusts of course!), vegetarian grape leaves, cocktail onions, and chex mix. Oh and the jello mold of course!
I set up three drink stations - sidecar, classic pims, and vodka gimlet - throughout the kitchen. My sweetie played bartender for much of the party, he barely had a chance to sit down the whole evening! There was also some very nice scotch on hand. Needless to say the bar was dry by the end of the night.
The candy cigarettes were a cool find. While not exactly the best tasting candy in the world, they did add to the theme of the party. I used pandora for music - all I had to do was type in The Twist and it played  perfect 50s hits all night. We even did some dancing (and a strange improptu limbo I think, but it's hazy...).

  1. Congratulations for your birthday. Pictures are really super cool. My neighbor organized a social get together at one of the nearly located LA venues recently. Various activities were planned for adults and kids. Liked the speech, debates and dance performances done. Food was served in a unique manner. Overall the event was enjoyable.
