Finery!

I was so spoiled for my birthday this year! In addition to throwing a party, I was given several presents that fit together in a lovely way. It is interesting to note that none of the gift-givers had spoken to each other. I received a collection of books on herbal gardens and recipes, a gorgeous moonstone pendant and... a hooded cloak! Yes that's right - a deep green velvet hooded cloak!

I had always wanted a cloak like this, but I felt too foolish to actually buy one. I figured I wouldn't really wear it save the occasional renaissance fair (which I would attend in secret anyway). But! Now that I have a cloak of my own my perspective has changed. Why shouldn't I wear this cloak when I step outside at night to gaze at the moon? It suits the moment perfectly (and keeps me warm). It's amazing how much wearing this cloak adds to the mystery and magic. It is a nice physical indicator also. When I put on the cloak, the sacred space is created and the moment begins. When I take it off, the moment has ended. Simple and effective.

My cloak is no different from the clothing in most people's wardrobes, in that it allows the wearer to feel transformed into whatever role is needed at that time. Whether the moment calls for a party host, salesperson, chef, or yard worker, we have specific clothing to help us feel ready for the task. When I wear this cloak I feel ready to connect with the divine, and that is a very special gift indeed.
